I am an artist. I will always carry that title in my heart.
The roles have changed in my life but art has always persisted.
The mediums are diverse : Piano, video, performance art, drawing, mixed media painting, art journalist and travelling artist.
Art is broad reaching and affects how one thinks.
Tatyana Abel is an emerging artist from Barrie, Ontario. She grew up in the small town of Midland and after journeying into other options she pursued her passion for the arts. She was first accepted into the Art and Design Fundamentals program at Georgian College receiving a certificate then moved into the Fine Arts Advanced program at Georgian. The three years in the Fine Arts allowed her to grow her talents in many mediums making her into a mixed media artist in which she bases her art practice in today.
The College gave her many occasions to strive in the art community and opportunities such as working for the Fine Arts Department, volunteering as a Gallery Assistant and sitting on a board for the Dean’s council. After receiving her diploma in the Fine Arts Advanced program she was accepted into Nova Scotia College of Art Design University (NSCAD U) to complete her Bachelors of Fine Arts.
In the three semesters attending NSCAD U she was pushed in various directions such as creative writing, beat poetry, craft as art and realms of realism furthering her artwork. The talent and creativity of the students inspired and humbled her allowing Tatyana to thrive in her own art practice and she became immersed in Halifax and its art culture. She also had her first solo exhibition at the local gallery in Halifax. This show, to her, was an abstract reflection of the time spent in Halifax.
Since graduating from NSCAD University she has moved back to Ontario and is striving to push herself to focus on a body of work. Currently she is working on a series entitled Know Thy Self, which has instilled in her to discover her roots in the small town she grew up in and it has effected her life in the arts.
